Based on recent reports, we have been concerned this day would arrive. This weekend we have been informed that several members of our staff, as well as children, have tested positive for Covid-19. All of our Preschool, Pre-K, and School Age children may have been exposed. Please monitor closely for symptoms and quarantine if necessary. Unfortunately, we do not have adequate staff to supervise the remaining children at the center. After contacting companies that provide substitute teachers we found that none are available on short notice. This requires us to close beginning Monday, January 10 and we will re-open on Tuesday, January 18. Note we were scheduled to close on January 17 for MLK day. This closure will allow our staff to recover and return to work and we will do our best to sterilize the center so that children can safely return next week.
We will not make any charges for tuition during our closure. In looking at the positive side, since we have had so many staff get the virus at the same time maybe they will be immune for a while so that we can maintain adequate staff in the future. This is presently a problem occurring not only at day cares, but also has impacted other industries such as airlines, restaurants, and grocery stores. Based on present reports, this surge in Covid-19 should peak soon and cases then will start declining.
We hope you will understand we are trying to make decisions in the best interest of our children while understanding the hardship that is placed on our parents. These are not easy times.

Dear Glenwood Parents:
Today we were notified of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in a school age child. The last day of attendance for this child was Wednesday, September 1st. We have determined who in the school age classroom had close contact with the child. The parents of said children were notified and their children are quarantining as recommended by the Dallas County Health Department. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the office at Glenwood. Thank you for your continued support of our school.

Dear Parents:
As all of us are aware, Governor Abbott has reopened the Texas economy. Effective next Wednesday, March 10th, the mask mandate that was previously in effect statewide has been removed and all businesses are free (but not required) to open to 100% capacity. It should be noted that most health officials, including the CDC, have stated that mask wearing should continue until the vaccination process nationwide has had more time to have an effect on the spread of the virus. We don’t wish to get in the middle of political debate. However, we feel that our current operating procedures have succeeded in allowing us to stay open and to operate safely and with less risk for our children and staff members. Since what we have been doing for almost a year has been successful, we don’t see the need to change at this time. We want to protect everyone — children and extended family members, staff and extended members — and we feel that we should stay the course for the time being and see how things go. We will keep you updated regularly as to any changes that we feel need to be made. Thank you for your continued support of our school.

Dear Glenwood Parents:
We regret to inform you that we have had four more confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Glenwood. This includes three children of the staff member diagnosed on the 11th. The children were in attendance on Monday, June 15th. We have spoken again with the Garland Health Department and their recommendation is that we remain closed through next week and re-open on June 29th. This is to make sure that each child and staff member has the requisite number of days to exhibit symptoms before we reopen and begin caring for children again. We know that this causes great inconvenience to those of you who are working and we are so sorry. We will continue to make tuition adjustments to all active accounts so that we do not charge for days we are closed. Local media sources report and the epidemiologist at the Garland Health Department mentioned that there are other child care centers in Dallas and Garland that are having similar issues and have chosen to close as well. Our sister school has yet to have a confirmed case, so we are hopeful that this closure will keep everyone safe and allow us to proceed through the summer as a COVID-19 free center. We hold our parents, children and staff in our hearts and pray for everyone’s safety. Thank you for your understanding. We will see you on June 29th!

Dear Glenwood Parents:
We are sorry to report that we have had another staff member who has tested positive for COVID-19. This staff member was tested on Thursday, June 11th. We have made the difficult decision to close the center effective tomorrow, Tuesday, June 16th until Monday, June 22nd to attempt to stop the spread of the virus in our Glenwood community. We have been advised by the Garland Health Department that each person who has come into contact with our staff member - even if they exhibit no symptoms - must be away from the center for ten (10) days to ensure that they don’t develop symptoms of the virus. Because of the nature of our business with siblings in different rooms and close quarters, we feel that we could possibly be putting our other families and staff members at risk and that if we close for four days we may be able to put a stop to this period of Glenwood community spread. We will issue appropriate credits to all parents’ accounts so that there will be no charge for the next four days. Thank you so much for your support and understanding during this time of pandemic. We appreciate all of you and are so sad that we have to close.

Dear Parents:
We want to inform you that we have a second employee at Glenwood that has tested positive for COVID-19. We received this information today and have reported it to the County authorities. The Dallas County Health Department advised us that if there are teachers that feel they may have had contact with the infected employee, they can be tested. We anticipate that at least some of our employees will be tested tomorrow. This is to assist the contact tracing that we all know is important to stop the spread of the disease. We have no other employees that are showing symptoms at the present time. Thanks again for your support.

Dear Parents:
We have learned that one of our staff members at Glenwood has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently quarantining at home. Her last day of work was Thursday, June 4th. We have notified the Dallas County Health Department and our state licensing authorities as required. We have already accomplished our deep cleaning and disinfection procedures and have had the benefit of the weekend days with everyone out of the building. We have already notified the parents whose children were in attendance on Friday, but we wanted everyone to be aware of the current situation, one that we felt was probably inevitable when we reopened. We will be open on Monday as usual and will keep everyone updated with any new information we may receive. Please continue to check the website for information, or feel free to call the office. We hold our affected staff member, her family and all of you in our hearts and want you to know that we will take every precaution to provide a safe place for your children.
May 15, 2020
Dear Parents:
The world is a different place today; we have many more things to navigate around and through than we have had previously. What we know today:
— Covid-19 is still with us; we are effectively at the same place we were when we closed the center;
— Dallas County still RECOMMENDS that we “Stay Home, Stay Safe,” although no order exists;
— There is not a vaccine for COVID-19 so we will be living with this virus and its risks until one is available;
— It is IMPOSSIBLE to physically distance and care for children at the same time;
— We are learning more every day about the impact of this virus on the population;
— Caregivers of young children assume great risk and are to be valued and appreciated;
— Caregivers deserve to be paid for their services and be paid in advance of care;
— Since we are still learning about COVID-19, NEW policies must be in place and may have to be revised.
All of the above being said, we have instituted new COVID-related policies for our center. In the forms section of our website there will be posted by Monday a Parental Agreement which will need to be signed in order for us to provide care. Please read this new Agreement before you bring your child(ren) on Tuesday, May 19th. If possible, please print and sign before arriving. We will have forms available for those who may not have access to a printer, and the forms can be signed at the center. Children who do not have a signed and dated Parental Agreement will not be allowed to stay with us; there can be no exceptions to this requirement.
Thank you so much for your support of our school, our teachers and our support staff. We look forward to seeing you and your children on Tuesday!
April 24, 2020
A very warm HELLO to all of our family at Glen Oaks and Glenwood. We hope all is well with all of our parents and children. We miss everyone very much and are as anxious as we can be to get back to what things were just a few weeks ago.
All of our staff at each center are still on our payroll and are, as far as we know, just as anxious to get back to work as we are. Day care centers right now are only permitted to watch children of first responders and other essential workers. So the big question is when can all children return to day care?? Although we cannot be sure, we feel we are beginning to get some hints to that answer. Just yesterday the City of Dallas extended the stay at home directive from April 30 to May 15. This indicates that May 15 might be the target date to try and get at least a portion of the work force in the DFW area back to work. All public schools have already been closed for the year, which means that people with children cannot return to work unless they have child care. This means we must be ready to reopen as soon as people are allowed to return to work and when state licensing says we can reopen. We will be ready to open as soon as we are allowed, whether this is May 15, June 1 or some other date. The point is that there are many signs, not just in Dallas but across the nation, that the reopening of the economy is coming soon.
When we reopen, it will effectively be like the summer months as school age kids will be with us all day. We do not yet know how field trips during the summer will be impacted. This is a new deal so we will go with the flow and be flexible in trying to make the decisions all of our parents will appreciate. Whatever we do we will make sure that all of the children will be happy to get back to being kids, learning, eating right, being loved, and playing with their friends.
Please continue to stay safe. Let your kids know all of us really miss them and that we should be able to see them very soon. If anyone has any question, feel free to either contact us on the web site or call either Donna or Ken.

Dear Glenwood families:
We miss you all and hope that everyone is safe and well. We are staying at home for the good of our families, our country and for the health care heroes who are battling COVID-19 under very trying conditions. We hope that most of you are able to stay home as well. We are closely watching the situation in New York City, as we have two daughters living there. As for our family in Dallas, we see each other infrequently and only from 6-10 feet away. Our hands are as clean as they have ever been … and we frequently clean surfaces in our home that are touched on a regular basis. We are hoping that more cities will follow the lead of New York City and Dallas by placing restrictions on our citizens so that we can ALL follow the recommendations of doctors and scientists in order to get ahead of this virus, rather than continuing to try to catch up with it’s progression. Experts are predicting that Dallas may be a new hot spot in the near future. Additionally, Governor Abbott has extended school closures statewide until May 4th. If you have any questions or need anything from us, please contact us through the website or at our email address: glenwood05@gmail.com. We know that we speak for all our staff when we say that we cannot wait until we can resume business and see all of you again! We will be in touch again soon. Stay safe.
March 23, 2020
Dear Glenwood Families:
Well … it has happened … Dallas County is in shelter in place mode. We hope that you all have been staying home as much as possible so that everyone remains safe. Now that we are in the current stay home mode, we wanted to let you know that all fees for child care have ceased. There will be no additional fees assessed to any account during the closure of the center. For those of you who may have paid for March or the first half of March, we can and will process refunds for any days already paid for while we are closed. In the alternative, we will apply any credits to your account to future charges when we re-open. If you need us to help you with a refund, please contact us through the website and we will get back to you. Parents who are receiving assistance with child care through the Child Care Group can go to childcaregroup.org for helpful and comforting information on how the Workforce is handling all pertinent attendance card and payment issues during this crisis time. We know that we speak for all Glenwood staff when we say we miss all of you and we miss going to work, but we are all convinced that this time away from everyone will help us flatten the curve and get back to business more quickly! Please feel free to reach out to us if you need help in any way. We are here to help if we can. We will post any updates or further information to the website for the duration of this time. Stay safe and healthy. See you soon!
March 17, 2020
Dear Parents:
Due to the escalating nature of the COVID-19 virus spread in our country, we have decided that for the health and safety of our children, staff and everyone’s extended families that we will close our schools today at 1:00 p.m. until further notice. This will allow us to feed all the children lunch before closing. All of the surrounding school districts have closed for these reasons and we care for our families and staff just as much as they do. We have had virtually no information and/or support from our licensing agency, Dallas County, the State of Texas or the leaders in Washington. It appears to us to be ludicrous to close schools and keep child care facilities open. We have substantially more than 50 children in each school all interacting with each other. We are now required to check temperatures without the benefit of the protective gear that other health professionals are allowed to use. We are unable to find food supplies in the proper amounts to effectively feed the children. We go to grocery stores and find no milk. If a thermometer stops working it takes hours to find a store with one in stock for purchase. The list goes on….
We have not come to this decision lightly or without much thought and agonizing. But in familiarizing ourselves with the plight of the other nations in the world that are ahead of us in the spreading of COVID-19, we are fools to ignore the wisdom of closing and sheltering in place. We applaud the communities and states that have been extremely proactive in mandating closures of schools and entire communities; we cannot understand how child care centers are not addressed in these closures, as children can often be carriers of the disease and have no visible symptoms. We are confident that the authorities will very soon mandate closures of all child care centers, with the exception of those for children of medical staff and first responders. We are simply closing a little earlier than those mandates because we feel it is the right thing to do in these new and uncertain circumstances.
We will post updates as they arise on this website…. we hope to see all of you again soon. Please stay safe — wash your hands properly, stop touching your face, and stay home as much as you can. Thank you for your understanding.

Dear Glenwood Parents:
We have been instructed by our licensing authorities to implement the following procedures with regard to children and parents arriving at and leaving Glenwood for the day. Each child will need to be dropped off to a staff member at the front desk where the child’s temperature will be taken to ensure that he/she has no fever. Parents will not be allowed further than the front desk unless there is an important reason to accompany the child to the classroom. If it is necessary for the parent to accompany the child, then that parent’s temperature will be taken as well. Additionally, we request that parents wait in the front office for their children to be brought to them from the classroom. This practice, although cumbersome, will hopefully help us keep the center as clean and sanitized as possible. We have posted the email from Texas Health and Human Services at the front desk. All future notices from us regarding the current situation with COVID-19 will be posted on our website: gwdayschool.com Thanks for your cooperation.
